SOURCES & VERIFICATION

Sources are part of the article, not an afterthought.

Structured references help readers understand where information came from and help editors know what needs to be checked again later.

01

Source types

Pages may cite official sources, primary documents, academic publications, books, archives, reputable news sources and other references. Each source can store its title, publisher, URL, publication date and date accessed.

02

Verification labels

Starter record means the page still needs deeper checking. Documented means sources have been added. Verified means key facts have been reviewed against available sources. Needs verification flags information that should not be treated as settled.

03

Historical sources

Chronicles, administrative records, laws, maps, inscriptions, archaeology and later scholarship answer different questions. Articles should make those differences visible rather than treating every source as equally authoritative for every claim.
